The electrician came today. The plumbers connected our greywater up fine, but of course we had extension cords running all over the place and lying on the ground and stuff, so we needed someone to tidy that mess up and make it safe.

He did that. So fucking safe it doesn't actually work. I've no idea how he did it - the power point he installed works fine, so whatever he's done he's done to the greywater system itself.

I am not happy.

Especially not now the weather's warming up and it's really starting to matter and I'm now just itching to get the rest of the yard hooked up to it as well.

If this turns out to be a long fangled process, I'm going to cry. I'm really going to bloody cry. It has taken so long from purchase of the bloody thing to actually switching it on and having a quarter of the garden sorted out. I thought it was going to take three weeks, max.

It's springtime already.

I hate home improvements. This should have been easy. And actually, it is easy but since I can't do stuff myself, I have to rely on Other People, and that trick never works. And while the steps are always perfectly clear, there's an infinite number of little messups that happen along the way and if you aren't well enough to play coordinator, boss people around and do at least some of it yourself(and I'm not), you're screwed.

Oh and the wireless router died. I don't know how he managed that as well, but it was working fine before he turned the power off. It just didn't come back on again after he turned the power back on again and I didn't realise until he'd gone. So I'm on 10B's computer and everything feels wrong and looks funny.

Yes I'll be calling him tomorrow. I'm not quite sure what I'll say if he tries to charge me money for coming back though. The greywater was working okay yesterday, so I don't feel I should have to pay a thing.

I assume the router is just coincidence, although it now occurs to me I might want to check other appliances in case he managed to cause a power surge.

At least dinner was nice.

I want to run away screaming every time somebody has to do something around here that we donĀ“t have the know-how, time or tools to do ourselves.

I hope it all gets sorted out for you quickly and as painlessly as possible.

Check out Flanders & Swann "The Gasman Cometh". It pretty much sums your situation, I think.

i just read your first sentence as "the election was called today" and i went into a frenzy of checking newspapers and then i couldn't see anything and then i rechecked your entry and it wasn't even about that, and now i'm not in a frenzy any more. damn i wish they'd just call it!

sorry about idiot tradesmen. they really suck. as do real estate agents, finance brokers, bank representatives, insurance company call centre people, prospective buyers who want irregular inspection times, building inspectors, previous vendors who have moved to italy with relevant title information, and anyone else connected in any way to the property industry.

time for a milo.
